Amla/Nellikai is one of the main ingredients used in many ayurvedic medicines. Amla is an immunity booster, a rich source of vitamin C that helps to fight many bacterial and viral infections. Ingredients
- Nellikai/Amla - 9 to 10 big sized
- Mustard - 1/2 tbsp
- Turmeric - 1/2 tbsp
- Jeera - 3/4 tbsp
- Methi seeds - 1 tbsp
- Asafetida - 1/2 tbsp
- Red chili powder - 2 tbsp
- Oil - 4 to 5 tbsp
- Salt - as per taste
Method
- Wash nellikai/amla thoroughly and pressure cook them (2 whistles is enough)
- deseed the cooked amla and mash them using your hand or blender
- Dry roast methi seeds, jeera and powder them
- Heat oil in a Kadai, add mustard, turmeric powder, jeera methi powder, asafetida and then add mashed amla
- Add chili powder, salt and cook it on low flame for 8 to 10 min
- keep stirring. Once the oil starts leaving at the sides switch off the flame.
- Amla thokku is ready. you can store it in a ceramic jar/ glass container.
