Bel-Patra, one of the important offerings to Lord Shiva has some unique medicinal benefits. Every part of the bel tree is used for various medicines in Ayurveda. The extract of bel patra is used to treat skin conditions, hair fall and also to manage cholesterol levels. Tambuli is one of the best ways to consume bel-patra.

Ingredients
  • Bel patra - fist full
  • Black pepper - 6 to7
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tbsp
  • Freshly grated coconut - 3 to 4 tbsp
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp
  • Buttermilk - 2 cups / whisked curd - 1 cup
  • Water for grinding
  • salt

Seasoning

  • Ghee -1/2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - 5 to 6
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tbsp
  • Red chilies - 1 to 2

Method


  1. Wash freshly plucked Bel Patras
  2. Roast black pepper, cumin seeds, and bel leaves in ghee
  3. Grind grated coconut and roasted spices and leaves together in a mixer grinder by adding water
  4. Strain the grounded mixture and add buttermilk/whisked curd to the strained juice
  5. Add salt as per taste and mix well. 1/2 a spoon of jaggery can also be added (optional) to enhance the taste.
  6. Season it with curry leaves, mustard seeds, and red chilies
  7. Healthy bel patra tambuli is ready to serve with steamed rice
